So, what part of the Body do you feel like today? Paul tells us that we are all members of the same Body of Christ, given different gifts to serve and build up that body (1 Corinthians 12). The part of the Body that is Westlake Lutheran Church has a challenging summer ahead, because we've all got to figure out how to "work around" a resting body part. We know that Christ is our head, no matter what body part we are, and that doesn't change. But right now Pastor Craig is enjoying the rest and renewal of his sabbatical, but the body has to keep on functioning. It's kind of like having your right hand in a cast (if you're right-handed) and figuring out how to do everyday stuff that you usually use that hand for. Everything will still get done; it just may take some ingenuity to finish all the tasks. Each of us will have to look around and discover some new talents and ways to help one another...and those "outside the walls" this summer.
One thing that everybody can do is pray during the summer. Pray for renewal and rest for Pastor Craig, pray for a great summer for Kristine and the boys as they join him in this adventure, and pray for Westlake Lutheran Church as we discover new ways to share God's grace with one another and the rest of the world. Remember, just like having a cast on your hand, this sabbatical time has a finite end. We've got twelve weeks, until September 8, to enjoy the summer and find creative ways to be the Body.
Blessings,
Lynn Bulock, Diaconal Minister
Amen! Good suggestions.
I've already sensed a difference. When you read a prayer request and you normally figure that Craig will handle that. Now, you realize it has to be us that reach out. That's healthy.
May God use us all in every way possible to stretch our faith.
