Good Morning!
I start the year with Republican optimism! You are rebounding from your lowest poll numbers, and the Democrats remain in the poll dog house. They choose to attack you, but it isn't helping them sell Americans on their own vision for the future. They major in focusing on the rearview mirror while "just saying no" to anything you try to do. They have lost their way.
I have two suggestions-1) Keep coming to Americans directly to update them on the facts in the war against terrorism and the war for peace in Iraq and 2) continue to sell a balanced plan in dealing with illegal immigration (a secure walled border and, only then, a guest worker plan).
When I wrote the two columns included in this letter, I received so many letters of support that I know we are on the right track. The cultural war against Christians is clearly being faught, and Christians are starting to take a stand. The election in Iraq was a glowing victory, and I wanted to start the year off indicating how long our own road to democracy was in our formative years. The comments from soldiers returning where the most touching; they loved pointing out what they served for and what some of their friends gave up their lives for.
I know the media held the story on the "unlawful monitoring" to take the focus away from the positive news from the Iraq election, but Americans can see through it. In the beltway, they may feel you did something wrong, but in the heartland, we know you did what you did to save our lives by acting quickly to monitor potential enemies. Keep up the great work.
Like all Republicans, we have a lot to do to make 2006 what it can be, so I won't take any more of your time. Just know that we support your efforts and appreciate all you do in ensuring the future of our great country. Years from now you will be seen for what you truly have been-one of our greatest Presidents!
In Conservative Support…with Renewed Excitement,
